UAE concert goes high-tech

The UAE’s first ‘smart chip payment concert card’ is to be deployed at this week’s Shakira concert.

Implementer Vice Versa International said guests would be able to purchase the card prior to the concert, which will work as an ‘electronic purse’. The card will allow them access to the VIP area and will carry pre-loaded credit that can be redeemed for food and beverages.

The credit on the card can be topped up at reloading stations within the VIP area by using cash or a credit card.
Wot I want to know is why do we have a picture of Shakira with the article and not a picture of the card?

You really want to see a disconnect between article content and the accompanying photo? Check this out:

This is to be expected of Dubai newspapers sadly!

No no no. This picture is actually very appropriate. If you've watched the movie.

Also, 7Days hardly qualifies as a newspaper, my dear. It's a glorified underground mag set out by people who like to play with daddy's printing press. Undergraduate students in Journalism 101 can do light years better. Don't send me links to 7Days - I liken this to the National Enquirer. Crap.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the connection between the deteriorating mental and physical health of over-worked airline crews and Leo DiCaprio's con-man character pretending to be a schmoozing co-pilot to escape the law?

No doubt, Catch Me If You Can was a phenomenal movie.. but perhaps a still from The Aviator would have been a more appropriate given the discussion of flying-induced illnesses (since Howard Hughes was rather neurotic).

Yes, I know 7Days is a cheap tabloid but unfortunately it is reflective of the quality of all news reporting in the UAE now.

Having grown up there, and being a regular reader of all of the UAE's English language press, I believe that the link I sent you is actually a quite the news staple, unsurprising in a country where Michael Jackson stories often nudge out major international news pieces to make roaring headlines.

But given your acerbic response, I'll be sure to avoid commenting on your blog in the future since it appears that sharing harmless information indicative of an interesting trend somehow equates in your mind to insulting your intelligence... which is bizarre to me, but hey, whatever floats your boat!

Have a good one.

Wow. You're in a bad mood today.

Not a bad mood, just don't like being unfairly patronized, that's all!
