Oh my mauve!

People, please stop sending me chain letters. I don't believe in them. They are a waste of bandwidth. They irritate me. I don't care if horribly bad things will happen if I don't forward a bunch of drivel to my nearest and dearest. I've never sent you chain letters. Doesn't that count for anything?

The JVC people have taken away Plaz, our flat screen tele (yes, I name my electrical equipment. Yes, even my turntable). I didn't ask them for identification. Do you think they were not from the JVC?! Oh no! Wot if I've willingly let thieves haul away our big screen?! Plaz! Come back!

My toes are now very mauve.

Uncle Scrooge came to visit for a few days. He's got an appaling sense of direction. And no hair. The signature Scrooge hair is falling. Very sad. You should have taken better care of it, S. For your fans. For the masses. Hot oil treatments and all dat. Tch. Very sad.

God help me, I am so bored.

So if the telly's gone, what is mom doing now?!

Mum sleeps all the time. She's a very tired person. I still haven't figured out wot the young professionals do for fun in this town.

My list of fun things to do:

1. Walk to Bur Dubai through karama, then ride the abra to deira and see all the ronak around the creek area, so lovely you'll wonder why you dont do it everyday.
BTW, the public lib is right across the creek too, good collection for dxb standards.
(As an aside on public libraries, british council has a small one with this itty bitty cafe where you can read and meet fun students)

2. Sit at the starbucks in Emirates Towers with laptop/book, avoid the one in city center

3. Weekend fun places: Casbah (my fav), there is a fun salsa club called something garden hmm, hard rock cafe has a grunge band, there is a very gora club at wafi with good techno, etc. Do not go to desi clubs unless you want to hear v bad music and are desi starved for some reason

4. Wafi has an awesome spa-cleopatra or something, worth a look

5. good places to eat: coconut grove (awesome, its in that hotel on the corner of diyafah), v nice thai place on that strip opposite bur juman, and of course the bombay chowpatti in karama is a lot of fun in the evenings, can socialise for a good hour over chaats and matka kulfi

6. Movies- city center
hindi-I still prefer the plaza to lamcy

7. You must beach bum- public beach in jumeirah is a lot of fun until late hours, if you want to BBQ better is the one right opposite burj al arab, next to the funny shaped sailing hotel
The beach opp burj al arab is a v good place to sit on the sand and look at the pretty laser lights of the burj

8. Lots of jazz clubs, one good one is on ground floor of emirates towers, there is also a bar with a spectacular view and very professional crowd on the 20-something floor there.

9. Nice places to shop: zara in city center is terrific, avoid splash now its become v awful

10. Of course, must eat shawarma from tabouleh :))

Whats on has a guide to all the bands that are playing, might want to make a couple of friends in high profile places so you can get in for free.

V thrilling to buy pirated dvds whilst looking out furtively for shurtas.

sigh, cant believe you've been there and still havent tried the mango cake from lulu :(
