(Old yet) Odd potatoes

The introductory caption to the current potato-talk segment of BenettonTalk tells us "Potatoes: you probably eat them quite often, but what do you really know about them?" and wins prominence on the homepage over other important topics like the Tripoli Six, deforestation and a little rant about airport security.

The illustrations are cute in a creepy sort of way. We also learn that one does not in fact grow more potatoes by putting a potato into the ground. Potatoes come from seeds. There's an impressive networking fact.
Funny girl this Angela Natividad.

The future of commercial bulimia

Imagine a modern metropolis with no outdoor advertising: no billboards, no flashing neon signs, no electronic panels with messages crawling along the bottom. Come the new year, this city of 11 million, overwhelmed by what the authorities call visual pollution, plans to press the 'delete all' button and offer its residents unimpeded views of their surroundings."

City officials in Sao Paulo, Brazil just passed a law that may see the end of ads in public display.
Natural progression? Web 2.0 changed the way we share information. Maybe this is Ad 2.0. Further blurring the lines between art and advertising. Makes sense to me.

I had a nice weekend

There was the Technology Entrepreneurship Night at BU on Friday where I sat at dinner with this chap who, I kid you not, had the point of view that "third-world countries did not necessarily need as much energy as the U.S... maybe they don't want to be like us". Involuntarily in my head, I spat my asparagus at him. Ashan and I did vehemently oppose that view and I think the servers were listening in because they kept filling up my wine glass. Thank you, by the way. As usual Ashan's views were geo-political and mine were socio-economic and a lovely hyphenated time was had by all. Especially Mattie and Matt who look like they've poisoned the soup or something. Either that or they're very pleased about stealing all the water glasses in the room.

Onwards then to the MBA Spring Gala at the Top of the Hub at the Pru. Click. Go on. Look at the pictures. It's a very nice place.

The party was lurrvley with self actually dressed as a female for once and wot with lurvely compliments and too much Bacardi going to my head, I think I hugged one too many people. Not my fault, I still maintain. My ears didn't pop at the 38th floor like the elevator said they would. There was very little oxygen up there.

But as I say, no such thing as too much hugging. Unless of course you've stopped hugging and started feeling up people. All sorts of wrong people. Not that it happened - I behaved myself impeccably thank you very much - but it could have.

After they kicked us out of there we crossed the street and stood outside Lir for about 30 minutes drunkely swaying as a group which is always nice. They wouldn't let us in. Too many suits in their bar was giving them a bad rep. And onwards home we went.

Saturday was spent mostly in bed recovering from too many Bacardis the night before. I slept at 3:30 am, woke at 11 am and I swear I was still drunk. Pizza was ordered. Back to bed we went. Khan did take me out to a nice gobi manchurian dinner in the evening though and the day wrapped up nicely by going back to bed.

Sunday was uneventful with lots of lolling about on the couch watching documentaries. I did go out for the obligatory sun-soak on the way to a crepes lunch but that didn't last long as I had no sunscreen and for those of you who know me will attest to the fact that more than 80 seconds in the sun and Wolfe starts to crinkle at the edges. Yes, I know I'm brown. Yes, I know I'm not supposed to get sunburnt. Go figure.

It's Monday morning now. I go sailing in 2 hours. Only one class today. Swimming later in the evening before bedtime.

I'm ok now. Thanks to a lot of alcohol, some venting, some wallowing and Khan. I'm going to be just fine.

Don't worry, I'm fine

I'm just... I don't know. Unsettled. That's all. I didn't sleep much and my head hurts and I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed. I missed sailing class today but seeing as the Nor'eastern is still upon us, I don't think anybody went out on the river this morning. I may have missed my rigging test but I'm sure I can take that another time. This weekend maybe, when the sun is out and the winds aren't 17 mph.

I did get out of bed eventually. I'm showered and dressed now and looking quite nice in a pair of lovely brown pants with a lovely (but slightly itchy) red sweater and homemade earrings and me brown boots. I have a presentation to give for my Branding class and after that I shall go wander around Downtown Crossing to cheer myself up. After that I get to speak to a bunch of prospective BU MBA students to tell them how wonderful this place is and how they should definitely pick us over the competition. Considering that the competition is usually BC or Babson it's not too hard to convince them (oh no she didn't!).

I did speak to a lovely man named Keith from Macy's outsourced call center who was in New Delhi and I wanted to tell him about Boston and the weather and that I used to go to that Wimpy's near Jangpura Extension and troll the used book stalls on the footpath and that I have a friend who's office is on Barakhamba Road and that my Pa is from Delhi and I watched that outsourcing video and did he hear about the shootings in Virginia and how hard it can be sometimes for brown kids here and that I'm lonely and homesick and want to cry every time I think about being lonely and homesick and that he didn't have to put on an American accent for me because I would understand if he spoke like he normally does and tell him that I really desperately want to travel because sometimes I think that if I lose myself in a crowd of strange people speaking in strange tongues where I don't understand the signs then maybe I'll find myself and ask him questions about his life and his challenges and that I still don't know so many things that I wish I did and it's funny how some days you feel like you're the bees knees and some days you feel so utterly inadequate and if he ever bought anything from Macy's and if maybe they get a discount or something and tell him about all the things that make me want to scream and rant and cry and lots of other meaningless important things but I kinda got the feeling that he wasn't the chatty kind.

Besides, I'm pretty sure Macy's doesn't pay him THAT much.

I'm going to school now.

I'm haunted

That's why I can't sleep. I'm haunted by Minal Panchal. And A.N.N.A won't let me sleep. Good thing I have A. Pinto to keep me company.

RIP.

I can't sleep

I tried. I did go to bed. Comfy large bed with lots of pillows and satin sheets and soft blankets. I could lie in bed all day. All night if necessary. But I can't sleep. You came back, didn't you? You left for a while in the middle there but I think you came back. But only briefly. Just one time. Now you're gone again. 10 bucks says you're a travelling salesman. Maybe you have a little baby girl who won't let you visit other people very often. Still, I think it's terribly irresponsible of you not to visit often. You know I can't sleep sometimes. The tricky thing about not being able to sleep is the boredom. Oh sure one could always read an improving book (which is more likely to put one to sleep anyway) but improving books are more often than not very large and heavy paperbacks and one does get tired of holding it up for hours. I should get me one of those in-bed-page-turning-book-holders-with-light. Like they used to have in those black and white commercials along with the beach-sandwich-anti-fly-fanner-holder thingys. There's nothing on the tele either. Quite frankly, even if there was I don't think I'd want to watch. Alls I want to do is lie in bed and talk to you. But you're out travelling and selling or something. Maybe you're asleep. That's always a possibility. But you always used to be awake at 4 am. You've let me down you have. I'm quite disappointed in you. I didn't even get my flowers in February. Tch. Terrible. Your credibility is now shot to hell, I'll have you know. But I think you've done this before, haven't you? I vaguely remember you popped in one day and then left for months. Maybe you're doing it again. I don't know why. I think it's quite mean to pop in and out like that. You know I can't sleep. Did I ever tell you about my alarm that goes off at 4 am? So like, somewhere in the depths of my walk-in closet, I must have something with an alarm in it. What this thing is, I have no recollection. So anyway, this alarm thing is set for 4 am. And it goes off at 4 am. Every night. Which is always a bit hit with visitors bunking on the spare mattress who always want to know why I don't hunt the damn thing down and shut it off. I don't want to, you see. It's nice to have a beep or twelve at 4 am for no reason. Gives me something to talk about. More importantly, I can't find it. I've looked, I have! I don't know wot the damn thing is much less where it's kept. It just went off a while ago. I felt sad because I didn't have anybody to talk to about it. Oh look, the Dubai people are online. I guess they'll have to do. I shall go ramble on to them about my alarm clock that goes of at 4 am. They'll forgive me for it. They know I can't sleep.

For once I agree with Steve

America Needs to Get Its Shit Together on Gun Control

Pardon this commercial break. Here's the way we see it. Those who like to tout "people kill people, not guns" are idiotic morons. While they might think they're mildly correct in some twisted fashion, no one can argue the fact that if it were illegal for citizens to carry guns, gun-related deaths in America would plummet. Those who think the Constitution gives Americans the "right to bear arms" are imbeciles stuck in the 1700's. Yes, we needed guns then. No, we don't need them now. It's as simple as that.

The rest of the world thinks we Americans have our screws completely loose on this one and they are right. Columbine. Virginia Tech. Neither would ever have happened had there been stricter gun control laws in place. Fuck the NRA and all their bullshit. Fuck the idiots that let the ban on semi-automatic weapons lapse.

It's really very simple. Fewer guns. Fewer shootings. Fewer deaths. Why is this so hard for people to grasp? Why would anyone support laws that are based on insuring the potential for death? Why do politicians put up with pro-gun lobbyist bullshit? Why is this country so retarded on this issue? Just about every other civilized country in this world has it figured out. Why is it so hard for us to do so?

Please, do tell. We can't wait to hear from you gun-toting, right to bear arms lunatics. Wait until your kid gets shot by some student in a bad mood with a gun. See how you feel then.

Cleveland finishes Boston Marathon!

Why this obsession with Josh today you ask? Because I'm too lazy and too ankle-impaired to run the damn thing myself. Takes a lot you know. They don't call it Heartbreak Hill for nothing. Plus this is the only marathon you have to qualify to run for (besides the Olympics). I could go watch it live with the rest of the 500,000 spectators but that wouldn't be as much fun as watching it on the tele.

JC finished 40k in 3:56:32 ranking in 14,621 - hitting his personal goal of under 4 hours (although the official time shown on the website is 4:09:48). Being an Army man, I'm glad he didn't have to run it in Iraq. So proud, so proud! Runners who finish within the first 6 hours get medals as they very well should.

Cleveland passes 35k mark

3:26:53 into the marathon. Doing well at a steady 9.5 km an hour. Watching WBZ now to try and spot him on the tele.

Josh Cleveland runs the Boston Marathon

According to the website athlete tracking, looks like he's doing pretty good on time. He last clocked in at 2 hrs 56 minutes at the 30k mark. It's been around an hour and he should have been spotted at the 35k mark but he hasn't been. Maybe they just missed him. One hopes so for he IS on Heartbreak Hill and the weather is pretty icky. See the interview on BU Today here (try not to swoon at his extremely sexy voice on that video as I did - sadly he's taken).

More bloody papers

I'm getting sick of all this writing papers nonsense. I'd much rather just get up and present, you know?

Ok, I'm just crabby because I can't focus. Blame it on Tranotron. She distracts me with her Vietnam pictures. Now tell me if this isn't the most beautiful face you've seen in ages.

I've got both the Celtic Woman albums to keep me company as I flit around my room spilling Turkish coffee to help me fritter my time away. Can I just say, singing Over the Rainbow in an Irish accent does not make it Celtic music. Why can't they just stick to seaweed songs.

Altogether now! Dulaman na binne bui, dulaman Gaelach... dulaman na farraige, b'fhearr a bhi in Eirinn!

Wikipedia says it so it must be true

On February 22, 2006, President George W. Bush threatened to veto any legislation passed by Congress to block the deal, which would be the first time in his presidency he would exercise the privilege. In a statement to reporters, Bush claimed, "It would send a terrible signal to friends and allies not to let this transaction go through." Supporters of the deal claimed that the UAE were friendly to America, as the emirates allow U.S. warships in the Gulf to dock in their ports and re-supply their ships with oil, food and other goods for free. Crew members are allowed shore leave in the country and entertain themselves free in malls, brothels and movie theaters.
Since when do we let other people publicly allege that we have brothels in the UAE?!

Bloody Coasters

Bloody Coasters (for Mumbai Traffic Police) were printed using a special invisible red ink, wich spreads only when moistened. They were placed at tables and bar counters in Mumbai’s prominent bars and watering holes. When a customer places his frosted, moist glass of alchohol on it, the red ink starts spreading; and the normal face starts bleeding. Alongside, the message reads: Just a reminder: Drunken driving kills.
A brilliant idea from Contract, Mumbai.

Stolen Childhood

Very disturbing ads out of Grey, New Delhi.

Disturbing but true.

How much do you think they paid for the market research?

A recent eMarketer round up of online video viewership stats has some wondering why more men (78 percent) than women (66 percent) watch online video when, conversely, there are more women (97 million) than men (91 million) online. All manner of research hoo ha and analytical blather followed without nary a peep from anyone stating the one word answer to this finding. Porn. Done. Next study please.

I think he heard me thinking

They've changed the music to Buddha Bar now. Much better.

In other news...

The final details were hammered out over the past week, advertisers were called the night before and Google's Eric Schmidt was reached the morning of NBC and News Corp.'s blockbuster announcement about a joint online video venture. After months of speculation, News Corp. and NBC Universal announced this week that they would create an online distribution system together for TV content. And by partnering with portals AOL, MSN, Yahoo and MySpace, the yet-unnamed distribution venture would reach 94% of the U.S. Internet audience.
Article here.

So like, I'm sitting at Harvard Ave. Cafe enjoying my Friday off and sipping my Earl Grey and surfing their free wireless and gazing lasciviously at the banana nut muffin on the counter and I have to ask - why do all cafes that want you to linger and spend a couple of hours there with the comfy couches and the indie art on the walls ALWAYS and without exception play Bob Marley? Is there a secret underground cafe network that dictates this? I swear, in any city in the U.S., they're all playing Bob Marley. Marley sales rise everytime a new cafe opens up. I wonder if they know this. Maybe the Marley people secretly own a piece of every such cafe in the U.S. That would be a good business model.

New template

How do you like it?

Now this is an interesting idea

At a program development meeting in LA yesterday, ABC introduced a new commercial format which would have actual paid commercials appear in media vehicles shown in the network's dramas and sitcoms. In other words, a character on a sitcom might be watching TV, an actual ad would appear on the screen withing the show and then it would widen out to the viewers TV and be viewed in standard fashion. The plan, still in development, would also incorporate print ads seen in magazines depicted in shows as well as ads shown on cell phones. Presumably, there wouldn't be official commercial breaks rather the commercials would be embedded within the show and appear individually rather than clumped together the way they are now.

UAE concert goes high-tech

The UAE’s first ‘smart chip payment concert card’ is to be deployed at this week’s Shakira concert.

Implementer Vice Versa International said guests would be able to purchase the card prior to the concert, which will work as an ‘electronic purse’. The card will allow them access to the VIP area and will carry pre-loaded credit that can be redeemed for food and beverages.

The credit on the card can be topped up at reloading stations within the VIP area by using cash or a credit card.
Wot I want to know is why do we have a picture of Shakira with the article and not a picture of the card?

Here. Watch a funny video.

Doors will open on the right

"This is ridiculous", she muttered, swaying dangerously on one weak ankle. The doors opened and more people poured into the already packed train. Six people pushed against her causing the precarious balance to tip. She crashed into Rob. She didn't know it was Rob because the hood of her eskimo jacket covered most of the bit of her face left uncovered by her unruly hair. "So sorry", she said, squashing Rob's toesies. "'Soright", said he. She looked up in surprise. "You can't say that. I'm the only one who says that". "Sure I can. You don't own it." The doors opened and 8 people climbed into the train causing a ripple squashing effect resulting in her being shoved into Rob's arms. "So sorry", she blushed. "'Soright, you smell nice", he grinned. Headphones were, comically, playing 'Mere haath mein'. "In fact, you smell very nice", he said. "Thank you, I try", she melted. The train rocked on. "Your eyes are very blue", she fumbled. "You're nervous", he observed. "Rubbish", she countered. "I like you", he smiled. "Because I smell nice", she reasoned. "Catch on fast, don't you", he smirked. The train turned. "Entering Packard's Corner, doors will open on the right", bellowed the train. "Tomorrow?", he said, eyebrow cocked. "Tomorrow", she simpered. The masses unceremoniously threw her out of the train.

Now I want an elephant

Proof that advertising was high in the 70s

Oh no, too many egg rolls! Now I'll never be a mind-sticker and then my hard-working man won't come home after a hard-working day and love me anymore. I'm devastated.

Very powerful advertising

Released by the Child Health Foundation.

A very sad love story

Although the translucency of the lizards is very icky.

I have a feeling this will not work in Boston

Just a wild guess.

"Darling, I could never be your mother"

The wonderful thing about being on vacation with Bi and Vijlet is that you never have to worry about anything. It's the perfect step-out-of-the-plane into open arms scenario. Very heartwarming.

So the flight from Boston was delayed by 1.5 hrs because of bad weather in Chicago (it was drizzling). As we waited at the boarding gate and I watched Gilmore Girls Season Two Disc Two, my ears were assaulted by the sounds of loud and rather rude conversation. There was this one guy talking to another chap and a cow of a woman who were yelling speech at each other even though they were standing together. It was very annoying. They went on to complain about United, how the service is always bad, how they're always late, how their stock prices should be falling, how the company should just fold and go away because they're the devil-incarnate and how United has a personal agenda to make their life miserable. On full volume. In the middle of the boarding area. I wanted to slap them. So then, they were asked to keep it down by the woman sitting next to me working on her laptop and the main obnoxious bastard, without breaking the flow of conversation, actually glanced at her derisively and said, "sorry to interrupt your AOL chat session lady". I wanted to slap him. Then he looks at me and winks. I really wanted to slap him. I looked him up and down and made wot I hope was a face of distaste and went back to Gilmore Girls, wanting to slap him.

So we board. The nice United man moved my seat from 20E to 6F which is always nice. There was a man with a heavy German accent sitting one seat away with, unfortunately Obnoxious Man in front. No matter, I said. I shall put my headphones on and read my book and not let him bug me I said. German Accent Man had very odd boots on. They were heavy, almost like military boots and he was wearing dark green trousers, a brown shirt with a long brown coat. He walked funny too. Very stiff. He had a briefcase - a brown patent leather bit of business. He was short. With a toothbrush moustache.

I'll let that all sink in, shall I? So anyway, GAM spent the entire flight staring at me as I napped. It was very disconcerting. Well probably not the entire flight but every time I woke up he was looking at me. I had bad Hitler dreams.

So then I wake up at a point and I see we're about 20 minutes to land so I buzz mine hostess to get a drink and OM in front yells out that he wants another whiskey (another?! it's a two hour flight!). She brings it to him glaringly. He strangely realizes that he's lonely and must commune with his fellow man and gets onto his seat on his knees and peers over at me exuding whiskey breath. I ignore him, waving my hand in front of my nose. He begins to speak and sadly I can hear him through my headphones. I take headphones off and look at him questioningly. He grins like a deranged monkey. I say, "What?" He says, "What's that you're reading over there?" I say, "It's a novel concept. It's call a book." He swigs whiskey. I resume reading. "Is that the Osama fellow?" I look at cover where there is nice picture of Sidney Poitier. "How does this look like the Osama fellow?!" "Well he's black in't he?" I look at him in awe of his stupidity. He swigs more whiskey. I say, "this is Sidney Poitier, yes, Barak Obama is also black but that means nothing in this context and Osama is the man they're trying to find, I hardly think he would have written a book that has the words 'a spiritual autobiography' on the cover that could be bought at any bookstore in the US." He swigs more whiskey obviously not comprehending. I want to slap him. Seat belts need to be fastened and he goes away. I shake my head. GAM is smirking at me. I look out of window hoping for quick landing and speedy exit. We land. Everybody stands up to queue in the aisle to leave. I don't. (I'm in a window seat and there is no question of having enough head room for me underneath the oxygen mask compartments to be able to stand straight and they haven't opened the doors yet so why bother). OM leans over and barks, "so you're going to Minneapolis?" Same flight was carrying on. No, I says, I'm getting off at Chicago. "This is Chicago" he says. I want to slap him. "Hey give me your number so we can hook up sometime" he says. Mind you, he's dressed like any other travelling salesman in his khaki pants and blue shirt and striped tie with grey jacket and looks about 35. "You've got to be kidding me," say I. He does not respond but as he walks down to the exit he is heard clearly muttering, "stupid c*nt... needs to get laid". At which point I tapped on his shoulder and when he turned around, I slapped him. Then I picked up my bag, pushed him aside and walked out of the plane. I think I saw the air hostess grin at me in sister solidarity. Now, I'm not the slapping kind but I have to say that was quite satisfying. I highly recommend it.

Vijlet was there to pick me up and towards their new home we went (Lincoln Park, beautiful duplex condo, very nicely painted). Bi was there waiting with open arms and lots of yakking was done over some wine and very spicy lamb curry.

Yesterday we went to Devon St. for some shopping for the home and then to watch Eklavya and eat Indo-Chinese at Hot Pot Kitchen. Very delish food. Very disappointing movie.

Time has shifted ahead this morning and as usual I'm up at the crack of dawn waiting for the bedroom door to creak open and footsteps to be heard on the stairs going towards the tea preparation area.

Hello! I hear water being poured into a kettle. That's my cue.

As seen on TV

What is it about Sunday movies? I've seen Barbara Streisand's The Mirror Has Two Faces and now I'm watching Never Been Kissed and they have this unsettling undercurrent. If you spend most of your life being unpopular because you're a geek, you'll be alone in your 20s and 30s but that will have given you lots of time and opportunity to study hard and do double PhDs and so then you'll be brilliant and still live at home with your mother and then suddenly one day some guy will come up and want you for your plainness and brains and then you'll discover makeup and the gym and become all svelte and sexy and then the movie ends. I mean, is this supposed to make us geeky girls feel better about ourselves?

Yes, I know, I could always switch the tele off but that would mean having to work on my paper and study for midterms and I really don't want to do either.

Oh and I've watched so many of the Space Bag and Proactive ads that I have convinced that I actually need them. I mean who wouldn't want to manage their closet space and have clear skin?

Laser advertising

I want to be a rogue physicist.

Nissan commercial

It's nice. Very snazzy.

Oh fuck it, I'm depressed and couldn't be bothered to write about it. Just watch the damn thing.

I think I shall make some.

It just gets worse

So well I figure, the paper discussion isn't until Saturday so I could technically do it tomorrow night after my client meeting and I'm sure the lawyer won't mind if I FedEx stuff on Monday I was supposed to do by March 1st and so if I quickly zip through my presentation and think really hard on the drive up to Billerica tomorrow, I should be alright. No?

Lord help me, now I have ennui in addition to chronic laziness.

Ah the flushing spiral of procrastination

So like I have to work on my country analysis paper, write down notes for tomorrow's client presentation, put paperwork together for my lawyer and sort out my desk and of course I don't want to do any of it so I cleaned the kitchen and refolded all my clothes and changed the sheets on the bed and swept the floor and then mopped it and now I'm thinking about making dinner only I'm not hungry and there is no meat in the freezer and we all know I can't eat an entirely vegetarian meal so I'm tempted to go to the store and get shrimp so I can make chili shrimp and watch teevee and go drinking with the MBAs because it is Arjun's birthday and I mean, shouldn't we be with our friends on their birthdays to drunkenly tell them repeatedly that we love them?

Help me. I need motivation. I am a weak weak woman.

Ad rants

... it's funny to us how the Red Cross of all organizations can do something so flagrantly tasteless while Cartoon Network gets penalized for a bunch of Lite Brite Mooninites. Really, what the fuck, man?

We've done stupid dads, talking animals, women in bikinis, rape, humor, shock, poignancy, cavemen, rodents out of a cannon and hundreds of other hooks to get people to look at our ads. The meme of the moment now is suicide. GM did it. VW did it. Now we have children contemplating suicide for...lollipops. Yes, Chupa Chups thinks it's the end of the world without their lollipops with girls contemplating a jump from atop a doll house and boys contemplating death by milk. Surely the Center With Nothing to do But Complain About Innocuous Ads will have something to say about this one.

Like Wikipedia.org, the Drawball project proves surprising to some: people left virtually unregulated will work together to build something meaningful, even if the meaning can only be seen in the aggregate.

"I think I just encountered a nut"

So went for dinner with the rest of the 'Round the World folks last night at Addis Red Sea for some Ethiopian food. Took the T there and walked from Arlington (my old feeding grounds) in the Boston freeze and would you believe it - the battery in my mp3 player ran out and I had no spares. Damn Chinese crap. So then I think, that's not so bad, I can listen to the sounds of the city as I walk through Downtown. Maybe I shouldn't be in my own headphone-generated universe all the time. So I get off the train and surface anticipating the sounds of music, laughter, excited chatter - the sort of stuff you hear in any metro downtown on a Friday night. No. Nothing. There was nothing. Sirens and traffic. But that's about it. Prolly 'cuz it was too bloody cold to speak, sing and laugh. It was so cold, my arse was numb. I couldn't feel my fingers after 3 minutes.

Addis Red Sea did a lot to take care of that. The atmosphere was cozy. The pictures on the wall are lovely. The staff is pretty patient especially when dealing with crazy MBAs all hyped up on Friday Night excitement. The stools we were sitting on were hugely uncomfortable - a table and a chair are really nice when you're eating. The Dukan wine was nice as usual although Gus ordered the same one and it tasted more raisiny than mine - younger wine? Who knows. Anyway, the food was very mediocre. I had a beef sambusa with the Lega Tibs both of which were definitely sub-par from other Ethiopian restaurants. The dessert and coffee (and of course the conversation) made up for it though. I had a mini caramel turtle cheesecake with some very nice coffee. All in all, a good time was had by all - as is evidenced by the loud giggling heard from the Eleanor-Wolfe-Gus corner, the EXTREMELY large bill and the dirty stares of lots of other people waiting for tables wanting to kick out the loud MBA group that took up 25 stools for 3 and a half hours. Splendid. Can't wait for the next one. Cuban, I'm told.

And I leave you with this thought -
How long does it take MBAs to settle a bill?
A really really long time - we're too busy delegating.

Do you wonder about me as I wonder about you?

rone de aaj humko... do aankhen sujhaane de
baahon mein le le aur khudh ko bheeg jaane de

hai jo seene mein kaid dariya... woh choot jayega
hai itna dard ke tera daaman... bheeg jayega

Did you have a good long weekend? I haven't seen you for days. I miss you. I know I'm not supposed to say that but I do. I got used to having you around. Have you cured your insomnia? I haven't. I still sleep with my laptop next to me so when I turn over, I can see if you're there. But you haven't been there for a few days. It's only been a few days but it seems longer somehow. I guess I'm just lonely. I danced with my pillow last night. Can't remember the last time I did that. Actually, yes, I do. It was in that basement right after I had moved in. I would switch off all the lights and play sad songs and dance with pillows. Don't tell me you've never done that. I'll bet you have, if even in your head. That was when I drew her. The face in the mirror. In the haze of sadness and paint fumes, I drew as best I could. I think I want to be like this. I think I am like this. Sometimes I wish I wasn't her. She looks different to me every time I see her. The image is so familiar to me, yet alien. I don't think I could draw it again. I was listening to sad songs on the train back home today and it made me want a car so I could go driving in the snow with you, listening in silence. I wish you would ring me. You have my number. A subconscious sneaky play made sure of that. In my defence though, I wasn't thinking of now back then. But I think I'd like to talk to you. I don't have a clue as to what we would talk about but maybe we could listen to the silence. I walk around in the darkness sometimes and peer into people's faces when they smile at me, just in case they've recognized me. It makes me want to be invisible sometimes. (I am now inspired to write a detailed philosophical argument on the subject of how the 'always on' generation craves personal contact even more now that they've been weaned on the Internet). What did we do before the Internet? We definitely did not think about people as much, I'm sure.

Or maybe I always did.

McD's blows

There's something totally classy about blowing coke up your nose with a McD's coke spoon. It ties you to America somehow, and to cheeseburgers, and to childhood.

In the '70's, McD's strange-looking stirring spoon gets adopted by the white powder cult. Panicked about becoming accomplices in the empire of blow, family-friendly McDonald's discontinues the multi-faceted units.

But this kind of thing doesn't die quietly. Artists Tobias Wong and Ken Courtney bring the hot spoons back - plated in 18k gold, disco-fever style. Pissed at their insolence, McD's released a cease and desist.

Oh come on. It's every fledgling brand's wet dream to be appropriated by some enthusiastic subculture. And who doesn't want the designer drug users (possibly now enthusiastic - and wealthy - pop-art consumers)? They define trendy.

Plus, coke-heads are generally skinnier than the obese protesters long courting the golden arches. They make natural retaliatory press. Getting fat? Forego the baked apple pie for a spoon. It's free! (Magic dust sold separately.)

Go away

It annoys the hell outta me that you think you can pop up on my screen after all these months and ask me seemingly innocent questions about my life. I don't care about your life anymore. I gave it my last damn two months ago when you popped up on my screen after two months of the last time you popped up on my screen. So don't do it. Don't pretend to care. Don't clutter my pristine desktop with your Ivy League sexist (not so sexy) ass. The only reason you want to know what's going on is because you're afraid I'm going to end up in the same place as you and kick your ass halfway to hell. Because you know that you left things in such a mess that if I ever see you again, I WILL kick your ass halfway to hell. So don't do it. Don't come anywhere near me. Even if it is online. I don't give a damn about you and I don't give a damn about your insecurities. So bugger off and don't bother me.

Hubba bubba

I know this is probably hugely photoshopped and that Burt Reynolds is old enough to be my great-grandfather twice removed but I'm strangely turned on by this picture.

Hooked on Heat

Be sure to check out Meena Agarwal's blog on food, good food, how to make good food and the enjoyment of good food. I've used a few recipes and they always result in the kind of chow I'd like to eat - isn't that simply the test of good recipe? I recommend the pepper chicken. Chili shrimp looks good too.

No nudie pics

Since I am not one to post nudie pictures on this blog (I post it elsewhere :)), you're just going to have to click to see. Quite frankly, given that all we ever think about is iPods and sex, its about time the two were put in the same context.

And yes, in case you can't tell, it's a nudie pic. So don't click on it from work. It won't be my fault you get brought up before the IT Director because you were surfing porn at work. Losers, don't you have spreadsheets to monkey around with or something?

Two new BU blogs

Be sure to check out Mastering IT Strategy and The Fournism of Brands: Why we find them compelling, the latest BU blogs to enter the discussion. Feel free to comment and discuss with some very bright marketing and technology professionals.

Oh. Mi. Bod.

NOTCOT does a brilliant cover of the OhMiBod... "a whole new way to plug 'n play." I think this device is genius. Khan does not see the incremental value in converging two sensing devices but from a woman's perspective, it give a whole new meaning to loving your music.

I can just picture all those stone-faced chicas on the T in Boston with their iPods rockin' to the beat. Dude, that would make taking public transport so much more interesting.

Valentine's Day

I was rudely woken up by the sound of Meg and her boyfriend being nauseatingly cute and loving in the morning. Why is it that when people are being loving there is giggling involved? Disgusting.

However, my annual distaste for the day was mitigated by Random Lifer making me laugh. Everytime I think back on that conversation, I have a marshmellow craving :)

Weather was hideous and I twisted the damn fool ankle on the way to school (yes, again). However, snow day was announced at 3 pm and extremely boring night class was cancelled. So I came home and spent most of it lazing about on the couch with Khan. All in all, a good Valentine's Day was had. Even if I didn't get any flowers.

BU's Symposium happened last weekend. Nothing notable to note except that one person brought up Web 3.0 which made me go all tingly all over. I shall write my paper on it and then blog about it. Big tings, mate. Big tings.

Officially off till Tuesday morning. Contemplated packing my toothbrush and an icepack and heading off the airport and getting on the first flight to anywhere but realized that would be rather boring all by myself. Salad and Bi want me to visit Seattle and Chicago (respectively) and I think Black Cobra comes up north (if driving conditions get better). I do kinda feel like getting on a plane to land into open arms and good friends and witty conversation and lots of fun. Alternatively, I could do with a date for the Aurora Borealis show this weekend. Who's game?

Foolishly, however, I have agreed to a meeting tomorrow at 1 and the BU MS-MBA Silent Auction on Saturday. However, I could technically blow off the auction and take a flight after the meeting. So. Where should I go?

Music of the moment: RDB

Josh naal pau bhangra

So on Friday last we (Dixon, D'va, Rani and meself) went to Basant Mela 2007, a grand production put together by the Paki Students of BU at Metcalf Hall. The acoustics in that place are horrible by the way. Lots of pretty little (and I do mean little) undergrad desi girls running around in impossibly high heels and mesmerizing salwar kameezes. Lady in the pink hypnotizing number, can I just say this one thing, WEAR A BRA! You're not 10 and this is not the playground, when you walk, you jiggle, and not in a good way either. After an entire hour of sound checks (the show started 90 minutes late), the BU Bhangra team came up and strutted their stuff. I have to say they were pretty damn good. All those youngsters leaping about with zest and vim. Even the one Chinese chick. Made my heart warm up to the snot-nosed freaks. Good job BU Bhangra. I'd dance with you any day.

Then Josh came on. That was nice. They sang a few songs. There were some technical difficulties (yes, even after the one hour sound check) but they were nice about it. All in all, a good time was had.

Then Rani, in a fit of utter madness, decided to accost the DJ backstage to invite the Josh boys out for a drink. Crazy idea, you say. Won't ever happen, you say. They're not going to go out for drinks with you, you say. Well, next thing I knew we were in a cab speeding over to Rumor to get our pretty lil' fannies into the VIP area to party it up with the Josh boys. Yes, that's right. You heard me. We partied with Josh. Resh, I can almost hear your groaning.

So anyway, the evening wasn't as magical as we thought it would be - and not because of the gorgeous bouncers (yo, Jimmy-boy, call me sometime) or the very nice Boston Police Officer we had the good fortune to meet (Kevin, how's it goin', where can I get a hat like that?!). It started with Josh (Rup, Q and DJ Pavan) having trouble getting into the club. They were standing in line. It was funny. Rani and I had to get them into the place. Then apparently their promoter was too busy doing the lambada with some chickie-poos so their champagne was not sorted so Rani (bless her) fought her way to the bar to get us drinks. She was pretty pipped about buying Josh drinks. An hour of pretty insipid conversation later (Pavan was spastic, Q was snotty but Rup was such a darling) and its closing time. So we troop our sassy asses out onto the street and yours truly spends the next 40 minutes hailing cabs and letting them go. One after the other. I would hail them because Pavan would decided to leave. Then I had to let them go because Pavan would decide not to leave. It was so VERY annoying. Rani finally got fed up and went home. I was told to hang around and then promptly ignored at which point, I went home. But before I got into that cab, Rup came up to me and gave me a very nice hug. That made it all better.

Here's the kicker - DJ P decides to message me at 3:30 am wanting to know where the party was at. Correct me if I'm mistaken, boy, but aren't YOU supposed to be the party?

Lame. Very lame.

Thank you Rani for a wonderfully groupie evening. I did have fun. You rock, babe. So do you, Rup. I'd farh kay your baah anytime ;)

Also, can I just say, I have incredible hair volume. It could be from lying down all day. Goes very well with my gaunt ill face.

Dammit, I have to go to school tomorrow. I was getting used to this staying at home thing.

Little Mosque on the Prairie

Thank you Resh.

Be sure to check out the rest of the episodes on YouTube.com.

I have bronchitis

Tell me something. How is it that the human body is perfectly willing and able to generate metric tonnes of mucus but will not absorb the most absorbent of creams to combat dry winter skin? Why? Why?

I'm dry and sick. Ugh. It wasn't so bad yesterday so I actually went to one class (it was a Hatten class, I couldn't possibly miss a Hatten class!) but today looks tricky. Getting from the bed to the bathroom to the couch has resulted in a fit of coughing and lightheadedness. No wait, the lightheadedness was always there. Wheee!

So like, if you're reading this, world, send me soup. Actually screw soup, what I want is a large pizza with everything (green peppers, black olives, green olives, tomatoes, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, eggplant and feta cheese). I'm not so sick that I can't appreciate gourmet food. Don't forget the banana peppers. Or cake! Ooo, cake. I could do me some cake. What time do people start delivering pizza?

Wolfie, how sick could you possibly be if you're still obsessing about the feed-bag, you ask. Plenty sick, say I, pass the crushed red chillies and hand me an anti-biotic.

Nipple your toast?

This logo has been around since 1939, when a very clever and perverted artist named Jess Betlach decided to subliminally put nipples on the kneecaps of the Indian maiden, resulting in generations of adolescent American boys cutting up butter boxes to reveal the woman as pictured in the second image. Remove the box of butter she holds and put the same picture behind her, sliding it up but deviating neither left nor right. Tell me this wasn't intentional.
Ok, my friend Ken just admitted to doing this when he was a kid. Too funny. Read the post here. Don't forget to read the comments.

Motorola Internal Tech Strategy Case Competition

The case was about Ford's announcement of partnering with Microsoft to bring Sync to the market. Sync is Ford and Microsoft's collaboration on in-car communications and entertainment - a service developed by Microsoft to be made available on Ford cars that will enable you to sync your handheld device with your car using Bluetooth technology. The service is upgradeable, fully-integrated and provides seamless connectivity from outside the car environment to within. We were asked to provide recommendations on how Motorola should respond to this announcement in light of other developments in the automotive connectivity space - Apple's iPhone, Motorola's partnership with BMW and even GM's OnStar.

We didn't make it. We made it to the finals but were not chosen to represent BU at the International Case Competition. I didn't see the other two teams present so I don't know wot they were selling but here are a few thoughts on why I think we were not picked:

We sold the vision of seamless mobility. A world where you can use multiple handheld wirelessly connected devices that will speak to each other and provide pervasive intelligent interactions. For a complete idea of seamless mobility, read Motorola's white paper on the subject. Our recommendation was something called MotoLife. A comprehensive vision that will seamlessly (and across protocols) connect your mobile phone with your car, your refrigerator, your garage door opener... your anything. True seamless mobility in the theoretical sense of the word practically achieved with one device. A truly smart phone. Bolstered by software written on an open collaborative online platform. Strengthened by Telematics Location-based Services. All coming together to bring you MotoLife. Your true personal digital assistant that senses its you and automatically opens your garage door, reminds you to pick up your dry cleaning when you're driving by the store, finds you a restaurant you will like in a foreign city and even sends your wife flowers on your wedding anniversary - and here's the kicker - all without you having to remember to tell it to do that. MotoLife. Seamless mobility for your life.

Here's why we didn't win - we couldn't quantify the ROI on this vision. Three very prominent and excellent judges (one IT strategy professor, one marketing professor and a BU alum) decided that you can't sell a vision. You can only sell a product, or an idea that has been done before that has hard numbers to back it up or a direct competitive short-term response in the shape of a new product that is exactly the same as your old products but just branded differently. But you can't sell a vision. Because nobody would buy it. Because you can't quantify it. We didn't show the ROI. We didn't convince them that the market was as large as the number of people in the world. They didn't think anybody would buy it or that companies will not partner with it or that developers will not write code to make it work. Because there is no ROI on that slide up there.

The team that won was accused by one judge to have "fanciful numbers".

We addressed a strategic directional issue - not a short-term solution to a problem. We came up with a way that would make Motorola aggressively competitive and stay on top of the competition for at least 2 years. In the words of Mr. Teng, my esteemed associate, "When Steve Jobs created the iTunes and iPod... did he have to produce an ROI for his people? When Bill Gates created DOS and the Wintel platform, did he calculate his ROI to be 200000000000000%?"

Therein lies the difference between professors and an academic environment that is looking for a product development solution and CEOs of companies that seek innovative blow-you-out-of-the-water enterprise IT strategy.

So here's a tip for your case competition for when you go to b-school. Make sure you define the ROI. Even if they're fanciful, make sure you have numbers.

And I think here's my tip for real life. Make sure I sell how to win a battle before I try to sell how to win a war.

The bubble is going to burst

Sales have opened for residential units in Emirates Financial Towers at Dubai International Financial Centre, according to the developer. The $160m twin towers project is selling apartments, and has office and retail space. The buildings will have 1,200 automated parking spaces designed by the US' Robotic Parking Systems.
Article here.
A minimum of 125,000 residential units will be released on to Dubai's property market by 2009, according to a report by Shuaa Capital and Colliers International and cited by Gulf News. The report predicts that more than 70,000 units will be released this year, with a further 40,000 next year. It is thought demand will not keep pace with supply and prices will soften, especially in the high-end apartment sector.
Article here.
Major delays to the completion dates of Dubai's real estate developments are undermining confidence in the sector, reported Gulf News. Investors are facing delays of more than six months in many instances and currently have no recourse to compensation. Some experts have suggested an imposition of a fixed fine of up to 1.5% of the value of a property for every month's delay beyond an agreed date.

"I Wear A Wonderbra And I Don't Read 'The Economist'"

What exactly is this ad saying? I have breasts so I'm not smart enough to read The Economist? I show a lot of cleavage so I don't have to be smart to get what I want? I wear a Wonderbra so every man is at my beck and call? I'm a stupid female that thinks my breasts are more powerful than my brain? OK, maybe that last one's kinda true for some but still. Perhaps Linda Foster is just so cool for wearing a Wonderbra that intelligence like The Economist are just beneath her. Maybe the Wonderbra is so effective it makes her breasts so huge see can't see over them to read the magazine. Please. Explain this ad to us.

Warning: This video is very silly

What I want to know is how much did Rosie O'Donnell and the View get paid for this wonderful product placement.

My favorite part is when the toilet paper and the wipes chest bump.

Agencies Push For Value Pricing Over Time-Based

One trend that's been bubbling around in agencies for some time now might, aside from its other important benefits, may result in the elimination of the most dreaded operational activity: filling out time sheets. In recent history, following the shift from old-school 15 percent compensation, agencies have based revenue on the time it takes to complete a project mapped against the cost of hours to accomplish the project. There was then a shift to performance-based marketing that tied campaign performance to agency revenue. Now, the notion of value has been added to the compensation equation with several agencies, including Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Anomoly, setting fees based on the perceived value of the work they do for clients.
Wait a minute! Wait just one goddamn client squeezing minute! This means I can't bill my 30% PM overhead cost?! Not fair! That gap between delivery and performance was the sole reason I went into client servicing.

Good thing I'm into consulting now.

An ode to soup

What is it about soup that makes you feel instantly better? Even the process of making soup is therapeutic. Here's today's cold combating recipe:

Ingredients:
1 packet Macaroni elbows
2 Bullion cubes (beef, chicken or veg - your choice)
1 tin mushrooms (I like whole buttons)
1 tin corn kernels
A few sausages (do not underestimate the power of hot dogs)
Green onions
Cornflour
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste (just because you're sick doesn't mean you have to compromise on quality)
Soy sauce
Oregano

Directions:
Take large pot of water and bring to boil. Put all of the above ('cept the onions) in. Boil until macaroni is al dente. Thicken with cornflour. Switch off. Let cool to drinkable temperature. Garnish with green onions. Serve in large bowl with toasted pita bread.

Substitutions:
Chicken for sausages.

I got a cold

I have a fever. My nose is on its way to being blocked. My tonsils hurt. I had a strange dream about Arjun and Harry Truman and Abraham Lincoln and people being bludgeoned to death by golf clubs. Very bizzare.

Quite frankly, I'm not surprised. I had a feeling I'd be getting sick soon. It's a combination of no sleep, temperature changes and the fact that Meg has been incubating the apartment with germs for two weeks now. Plus, Khan had a cold and prolly sneezed all over my pillows, blast him.

Right leg is acting up again. It was the entire leg for most of the night but now it's better. Only the hip hurts now.

Made lovely red bean soup for lunch. Ate a few lovely Irani dates. Soft and syrupy. Very nice. Bit too sweet sometimes and can't eat more than 2 at a time but very nice. Dates are a good source of Vitamin C and energy you know. They're also good for sore throats and colds. Strangely enough, you can grind up the seeds and add them to coffee. Now that's bizzare.

It is nice to veg out on the couch all day but I'm starting to get a bit bored. I shall watch Nova.

Peas sir, can I have some more?

Dear Mingus Khan,

I would like to extend my sincere condolences on the sad, yet timely, demise of all the fried peas. These lovely orbs of delight are now no more. Mostly because I ate them all this morning for breakfast.

I understand that you may be feeling something akin to anger, shock, disbelief, despair and sadness but I must ask you to compose yourself to read what I have to say in my defence. Most importantly, you must not feel regret. Regret that you didn't eat more the last time you came over. Regret, perhaps, that you didn't steal a few in your large black overcoat that needs to be drycleaned.

You, more than anyone else, know the power of the fried peas. Their inherent crunchiness combined with the light, yet spicy, flavor of their preparation was too tantalizing to resist. I am, after all, a hungry woman. If it makes you feel any better, my jaw does hurt from all that crunching.

I know that the fried peas (of which there was only one packet) are irreplaceable but may I offer you jam sammiches and cashew nuts in lieu of said snacks. I promise you that it will only be a few days before you are leaping about my room in your characteristic bear-like manner joyusly singing in the happiness of being in my company. After all, one must keep one's perspective straight.

Best regards,
Belko Barzini

P.S. They weren't good for you anyway.

Hello darlings

I'm back. Have fixed myself and am back in Boston. Have fixed computer and am back online. Have not yet fixed jet lag so am very zonked out but there it is. Can't have it all you know.

Dubai was lovely. I did nothing. I didn't even make my own bed that's how much nothing I did. The trip back was lonely and boring and remarkably uncomfortable. Boston is cold and rainy. Speedy Zippy (my trusty laptop) was down with a nasty virus this past week so I spent the better part of yesterday and today (in class) fixing it. It's fixed now. Classes have begun. I've been sleeping for two days but I'm still jet lagged. My henna is fading and I'm already behind on coursework. Have had two classes and realize that the brain is a little rusty from all that inertia and watching Bigg Boss on Zee TeeVee all day (stupid show if you ask me). But soon. I shall be back in gear soon. Now I have to go buy $250 worth of course material and wade through all that email.

So, didja miss me?

Un homme qui maltraite sa femme, apprend la violence à ses e

You don't have to understand French to understand the message conveyed in this PSA about violence against women. The kicker of the message is a literal one and a powerful message that children do take after the examples their parents set for them. Young & Rubicam France created the spot.
Don't ask. Just click.

I've (almost) completly switched off

Looking back on the posts from Dubai in 2005, I find them hilarious. Everyday there was something strange and obscure and funny to write about. These days, there are still some strange and obscure and funny (and characteristically poignant) things to write about but I've completely switched off. Almost. I check my email every 3rd day but I ignore all the desperate pleas from people asking me to do work. I check it out of sheer curiosity. I really couldn't care less, quite frankly. My other email is up to 189 emails now. I really don't want to check that box. I'm a bit afraid.

So you see, this is why there have been no posts. Although, it's really quite nice of you to keep coming back every couple of days to take a look *hug bug nug*. But I'll post when I get back stateside. Which will be in a week. Maybe someday I'll tell you about the New Year's Eve Party with the Bollywood dancers and the drunken heirs to large empires making complete asses of themselves and other interesting goings-ons.

Until then, pip-pip!

The verdict is in

So like, I forgot to tell you. The DB paper was an A. But the GE paper was a measely B+. To lead to a cumulative semester gradepointaverage of 3.65. Hah bloody hah.

And I got the consulting job. Booyah!

I did miss him

Artraj: wotsup !?
Wolfe: hello, she smiled sweetly

Artraj: hello, he says boldly as he walks upto her and kneels down .....
Artraj: he pulls out a glass slipper
Wolfe: she files her nails randomly
Artraj: he looks up at her and asks - dear lady ... would you be ever so kind to try on this slipper ?
Wolfe: she gently lifts up her lovely zari sari and extends a perfectly pedicured foot..
Wolfe: the one with three toe rings
Wolfe: and slips on the slipper.. it's a perfect fit! she looks down at him, beaming..
Wolfe: balancing a baby on her hip.. she pushes up her black rimmed engineering glasses higher on her nose and with a gleam in her eye to match the one bouncing off her nose ring, she says, thank you ji..
Wolfe: and screams into the darkness, munnu ke papa! chappal mil gayi!
Artraj: he stands up .. and says .. that will be 450Rs
Artraj: thankyou .. come again please
Wolfe: bil mere husband de denge..

Artraj: err..mam ... your husband is currently trying on our latest fall collection of stilletos
Artraj: he insists that no matter what the problem in life.... a size 34 will make it go away
Wolfe: she spits paan into the distance, thrusts munnu into his arms and runs off screeching..

I know you missed me

Hello dahlings! So sorry I haven't written but I'm on vacation. In Dubai. I have no time for you.

That last week, you see, was murder on my brittle bones. But all done with finals and interviews and papers, I board my flight to lovely Athens and onwards to good ole DXB. The bags did not get lost. The flight was bumpy. The food was terrible.

The past 10 days have been spent mostly eating, sleeping and watching tele. Oh, and going back and forth to RK's place. Where we mostly eat and watch tele. There's more of that on the horizon.

Met Albert Pinto the lovely yesterday. Had an enjoyable chat over coffee and shawarmas with Black Cobra (who says hello, btw) and that's pretty much it in terms of outings. Perhaps I shall meet Vakson today. Art is too busy being creative for friends. Salad arrives from Seattle tomorrow. Life is good.

I hope you're well. Did you have a nice Christmas? I did. I went to the Grand Hyatt to sit unter the chocolate fountain greedily clutching profiteroles. I know you missed me, you came here every day looking for me. Except on the 16th. You didn't come on the 16th. But you did come twice on the 18th. But I thot you had bloglines that alerts you when posts are posted? Perhaps you wanted to look for yourself. Aww, you did miss me, didn't you?

The weather is very strange today

Or maybe I'm experiencing some strange sort of near-mid-life menopause. Sometimes it's cold, sometimes its hot. I don't get it. I take layers off when I'm outside. I put on my giant winter coat when I'm in class. It's very strange.

Also, my parents are mad. My Dad just called to tell me that apparently me Mum has a stomach ache because of Black Cobra's flight timings. She arrives at 6:30 am, I don't see wot they're stressing about. I didn't have the heart to tell them that I arrive at 2:30 am. You would think they would send a car to the airport instead of waking up to come and get me.

Did I mention I'm going to Dubai for a month? I am. In 5 days. 113 hours to be precise. 113 hours from now, I will be on a flight to Athens. Warmer weather. Ah bliss.

No grey cells, Holmes

I'm watching Heroes on NBC and I can't understand it! Wot the hell is going on in this show? Have I become so uncool that I don't understand television anymore?! No seriously, this is freaking me out.

My mood today

The future of advertising

Here's a good article on how companies are starting to advertise in virtual worlds like Second Life.

Are brands applying the same strategies in the virtual world as they are in the oxygenated world? In the oxygenated world brands try to connect with their audiences for the purpose of creating a relationship and a call to action: buy. Do their audiences exist in the virtual worlds, and if so, is it a place they want to see you? These are the types of questions that must be considered before entering virtual worlds.
Read it all here.

Here's a very smart ad campaign for IWC's Big Pilot watches. Very innovative.

Chiranjeevi at his best

I swear you are going to keel over laughing.

I'm taking 22 credits next term

Well 3 of those are Project Management and 3 are the internship so they technically don't count.

Oh, and I'm taking sailing. Yes, that's right, you heard me, sailing. Hah! I decided step and tone was for wussies and well, I kinda miss being on a boat (ah fond memories of taking RumRunner out under the moonlight). But Wolfie, you say, this is a class and it won't be at night. One step towards getting a certificate I say. Don't bring the mood down. I'm feeling quite brave and bold, stepping out of my element like this. Notice how I could have taken stroke improvement (not that kind of stroke you perv) but I didn't. All in the spirit of stepping out you see. Of my element that is. Although, since I'm pretty much shaped like a buoy these days, one could argue the water IS my element. All in all, I'm feeling rather pipped about my decision. Albert Pinto has already made a joke about me in regattas but I shall ignore that and blithely march on into unchartered waters. Look out Charles River, here I come! I'm all atingle with excitement.

I might even get out of bed today!

I wish I got presents

Don't you miss getting presents? I do. Big boxes wrapped in nice shiny paper. I like the solid shiny colors. Like silver and golden and metallic blue. The printed ones are nice too but the solid ones are better. Or I guess if you mix and match, they'd both look good. But only if there were lots of them. Sitting nicely in a pile waiting to be opened. Preferably by me. With big bows on them. Big bows with the nice small curly ends. I like that. I'm going to make it mandatory for people to give me presents on my birthday. I like American holidays better than desi ones. More presents. How come we don't have presents for Diwali or something. I feel jipped.

Won't you send me a present? Go to Amazon and buy me something and get it gift wrapped. Make it speedy delivery so I get it this weekend. Pretty please?

I've finished my paper

And it's brilliant! BRILLIANT! The key, Jimmy, is to shut it down and put it away and get to bed and sleep for 7 hours and then wake up at the crack of freakin' dawn and be amazed as you write it all in 36 minutes. An additional 10 to proof-read, save, print, bang, slap, Bob's yer uncle. It's brilliant I tell you. I'm going to get an A and get a fabulous job and make lots of money and rule the world! Hah!

The Angel Gabriel, I'll have you infidels know, is not dead. So there!

I need a muse

I have a strategy and business analysis paper due tomorrow and I'm stuck for inspiration and my lips are burning because it's 1800 degrees below freezing and I have no chapstick. I had two you know. The Glaceau ones. Those were so good. I gave one to Black Cobra. She stole the other one. Loser. Now she's lost them and I can't find a single place that sells the damn things and my lips hurt. I've been staring at this damn blank screen for hours now and I can't come up with anything compelling to say on my paper.

Arrrgh!
